H1Z1 is a free-to-play battle royale game developed and published by Day Break game. The game was first released on Steam’s early access program on January 15, 2015.
It is a battle royale game in which up to 150 players compete with each other for survival. The last man standing wins. The players can play solo, duo or in a squad consisting of 5 teammates. The goal of being the last person or the last team standing.
Each player begins their play by parachuting into their desired location on the map. After landing they must defend themselves by any means possible. Depending on various playstyles, players can choose to play aggressively, or by camping etc. As the game progresses the available playable area decreases in given timeslots. The players must keep a check to the playable zone as well as the next shrinkage time. Since being outside the zone results in the gradual decrease in HP.
9. Dying Light: Bad Blood
Dying Light is an open world first-person survival horror action-adventure video game developed by Techland, a Polish video game developer and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Dying Light’s unique blend of parkour and zombies made for an amazing game which came out in 2015. Even 3 years later it checks out that thousands of people are still playing Techland’s dope creation. It has been so popular that the devs have decided to make a battle royale spin-off. They are calling it a brutal battle royale.
In this MMO, 12 players go in, grab melee weapons. Collect enough blood samples from infected hives to summon the helicopter for the escape. And grab the only seat available on the helicopter to get the heck out of the zombie paradise. Unlike other battle royale games, here we technically don’t need to be the last man standing. The only thing we aim for is to get our bum on the only seat available on the helicopter. The twist is it’s not only the remaining 11 players who would turn out to be an obstruction. Collecting samples from hives as they would be protected by the infected. The more protected each hive is, the more sample we can extract from it.
8. GTA Online: Motor Wars
GTA Online: Motor Wars is an online multiplayer action-adventure video game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games, an American Video Game publisher based in New York City. Rockstar is usually the one found leading in the gaming innovation industry rather than copying someone’s idea but damn! Battle Royale does make sense as a playable mode in GTA Online, and Rockstar can be spared for this one. In August of 2017, Rockstar released a new update known as the Smuggler’s Run Update. This added a new mode called the “Motor Wars” and has been described as “a tense battle for survival”. Where teams compete against the clock to locate weaponized vehicles and hunt down opponents inside an ever-shrinking kill box.”
In actuality, Motor War’s over-emphasis on a vehicular rampage is where lies it’s uniqueness. Although we are still fighting to be the last team standing. This time we are dealing with skyscrapers. Insane ragdoll physics, and also with people driving armored trucks with machine guns installed firing .50cal ammo.
Whether Fortnite, an online video game first released in 2017. Developed by Epic Games, called out by Pubg for copying their exclusive battle royale experience. Epic games suing a teenager for hacking their servers. Fortnite Battle Royale hasn’t stolen the limelight for the right reasons. However, since the survival crafting title launched it’s PvP mode for free back in September 2017. Fortnite Battle Royale has acquired massive success as a PUBG competitor.
The model flaunts attractive features to set itself apart from the crowd. Having introduced crafting, resource management and unconventional new weaponry to the mix, with a focus set for a dawning gameplay. It allows ample room for creative victories. From building sky fortresses and sniping down enemies from the top. By surfing RPG rockets to attain victory via the element of surprise. Or by building traps to funnel enemies to their doom. There’s ample room for creativity.
6. The Culling
The Battle Royale genre primarily takes its inspiration from a Japanese film of the same name back from the 2000s. The Culling is a battle royale game which has been developed and published by American studio Xaviant. It’s approach a little different. The setting is in a jungle forest biome.16 players play the deathmatch for the last one surviving.
The combat system is clunky but purgative. The devs stressed more on melee and crafting elements rather than the common long-range firefights of Battlegrounds.
