Hello everyone, welcome to AnimeHound. Today I am gonna give you some news on the Upcoming Battle Angel Live Action Film. So let’s start the article.
Long Awaited Alita: Battle Angel Live Action Film
With the second trailer of the film dropping just a few days ago, James Cameron has finally realized his long-awaited dream of producing an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro’s manga classic. Following the exploits of an amnesiac cyborg, Alita, the original manga has been adapted into an animated film and video game. For the first time, however, a live-action adaption will be released at the end of the year. For the last 18 years, Cameron has been trying to get the project off the ground. And now with the help of director Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Desperado), he has found the perfect companion to bring the manga character to life.
Battle Angel Live Action Film
Based on Yukito Kishiro’s manga comic “Gunnm,” the story follows Alita (known as Gally in Japan), who’s decapitated cyborg’s head is found in the scrapyard below the utopian floating city of Tiphares, by the Hunter Warrior, Daisuke Ido. Without any recollection of her past, Alita is given a body by Ido and joins him in hunting bounties throughout the scrapyard city. Alita’s only link to her former self is her cyborg zero-gravity martial art known as Panzer Kunst, which she employs with deadly effectiveness. Eventually, Alita is caught up in the struggle between Tiphares and the oppressed surface dwellers.
Known for his big budgets and over the top effects, Cameron again has gone all out with Alita: Battle Angel. The new trailer, released on July 23rd, reveals more about the adapted story, which fans will be happy to know sticks very close to Kishiro’s story, due to Cameron being well versed in the original manga. The trailer also showcases the fully detailed futuristic CGI world as well as Alita’s martial arts prowess. While Cameron is not directing this adaptation, his hand is quite evident in the production; the film is a massive CGI epic with a rich character-driven story in the tradition of Avatar and Terminator 2.
Fans of the anime will be hoping for the Cameron effect. One of Cameron’s biggest achievements in creating the Terminator franchise was using different mediums to bring awareness of the film to a wider audience. In 1991, an arcade game was released in conjunction with the second film that helped it become the highest grossing film of the year. Today, the film still uses digital mediums to market the franchise through the popular Terminator 2 slot game, which allows fans to tap into the nostalgia of experiencing the iconic characters again. It is this type of marketing that has made Cameron the most successful box office filmmaker in film history. Alita: Battle Angel will be hoping that Cameron’s talent will not only produce a great action film but also help market it to a huge audience, which in the process will introduce more people to groundbreaking anime series.
The Film Features
The film features the talents of Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner series) as Alita, and Oscar winners Christoph Waltz (Spectre, Inglorious Basterds) as Ido, Jennifer Connelly (Spider-Man: Homecoming, A Beautiful Mind) in an surprise role, and Mahershala Ali (Moonlight, The Hunger Games) as the enigmatic Vector, who wants nothing more than to destroy Alita. Looking to be a visual triumph, much like Terminator 2, the film is scheduled for a December 21, 2018 release. Knowing Hollywood’s penchant and history for misinterpreting and botching anime adaptations here’s hoping that with Cameron and Rodriguez’s talents behind the film, it will be a cinematic triumph rather than a forgettable epic.
